Pigeonsoup, Chizicus, and I are going to be at Stumptown Comics Fest this weekend at table N8, along with the fabulous Adorable People! We’ll have comics, buttons, charms, necklaces, original art and commissions available! So come on dooooown~
Trifecta of snark!
BE FOREWARNED… I have bangs now.
Some super quick Saga fanart of Prince Robot IV because he is my favorite.
I recommend this comic to everyone because Fiona Staples and Brian K. Vaughn are rocking so hard in this book.
8:40pm - 12:40am
Christianne didn’t believe me when I told her the Dark Horse logo has a mouth.
The end! These were a lot of fun, I’ll have to do them again next year. :)
5:40pm - 7:40pm
The first panel I drew on the bus but the rest I drew at the bar sooo
When I got home, some friends were over! The rest is probably self-explanatory. Oh, we ran in to Leia Weathington at Holman’s who was also doing hourlies.
1:40pm - 4:40pm
All the girls in Production like to eat lunch together at the lunch table that nobody else uses (except as a space to put out things that are up for grabs like cookies or comps). After lunch, Christianne and I went across the street to Things From Another World to buy comics. Sean who works there is an awesome dude.
The rest of my day is watching progress bars. I go through the Dark Horse archives digging out materials to be used in a future project (which can be easier said than done). I run those through Photoshop with a batch action to make them all tiff files. While the action is running I scan in 12 pages of original art mailed to us by the artist who inked them. After they’re scanned in I clean up any pencil debris, make sure they’re aligned straight, then send copies downstairs for editorial as well as make them available to the colorist.
Christianne and I discuss dinner options while I wait for the key to the Art Return room. This is the locked room where all the original art lives and only three people in the company have the key to it. The guy in that last panel is Everett, an assistant editor. He’s pretty cool.
9:40am - 12:40pm
With my tablet properly installed, I tackle my first work order: removing the logo and barcode box from an old Conan cover to be used as part of the front cover of a book compiling Conan issues from the 80s. Restoration and redrawing old art is a big part of what we do in Production.
Cary is a great guy and he only ever wears black everything so I have a working theory that he’s a vampire. We discussed my job duties in that I have them now (and am no longer scanning in old issues of Eerie magazine for 8 hours a day).
My next job is to download art assets from one of our clients for an upcoming comic book/art book project but the FTP doesn’t want to work. After fixing that issue on my own, Adobe Illustrator refuses to open so I submit another grumpy ticket to MIS. They fix things over the phone like rockstars :3 I make sure all the parties working on the project have access to the materials.
I get a job to print out 250 pages of old Archie comics for an editor that needs them as a reference copy. While that is printing, I finish relinking the rest of the Star Wars Omnibus.
cedreau bothers me for lunch. PS: She did hourlies this year too! Here’s her memory of this. (accurate)
6:40am - 8:40am
um I drew a lot of these on the bus and that sort of set the standard for the “quality” level for the rest of everything
I’m gonna use these as a chance to talk about the sort of work I do for Dark Horse comics! Friday was actually a great look at the sort of work I do as a “Production Technician.”
Unfortunately, computer upgrades broke my computer on Tuesday and after coming back in on Friday morning things were not as up and running as I would have liked and I was already way behind on work. :C While I waited for someone from MIS (our computer department) to come up and install my tablet, I multi-tasked while relinking a 450+ page Star Wars Omnibus in Adobe InDesign.
This year was my first time doing hourlies! I’ll be posting them in batches of three and I’ll queue them up so I don’t spam your dashboards. ♥
New Gran Grimoire page is up! Gotta run or I’ll be late for my bus but NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM HAPPY FOR THIS ONE
Feels like forever since I’ve said this but there’s a new Gran Grimoire page up! I KNOW!! Leon is as surprised as you are! O_O
Neka posted our new Gran Grimoire page ALL BY HERSELF while I was at work. I’m so proud.
There’s a new Gran Grimoire page up today! I put a call out for some “working class type dude OCs” to do a little feature in the comic. Here they are in order from left to right: Al and Brendan from O Human Star, Nick from Walking on Broken Glass, Colin from Two Keys, and Iman from M.F.K.!
Thank you for letting me borrow them you guyssss ♥
